Mandolin Making in the Oldtime Tradition

This is the first step in making the bookmatched back
Joining a flame maple back
Rough carving a curly maple mandolin back
Rough carving an A style top plate
Mandolin tops are hand carved to thickness before tone bars are added.
Graduating an F5 Maple back
Preparing a vertical grain spruce tonebar for fitting.
Fitting the Tonebar to make 100% contact with the top for balanced powerful tone.
Tone bars are then shaped and the top is tap tuned as a unit
